The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs(CBIC) has extended the due date for filing of Return under Form GSTR-3B for Taxpayers having turnover up to Rs.5 Crores for the month of August 2020 vide it Notification no.54/2020-CT dated 24th June 2020.
Earlier CBIC had waived off/lowered interest rates for taxpayers having turnover up to Rs.5 Crores for the period February to July 2020 as part of Covid-19 relief measures. Now, CBIC has gone a step ahead and has prescribed a revised due date for Taxpayers having Turnover in previous FY up to Rs.5 Crores depending upon their place of registered business.
For Taxpayers having turnover up to Rs.5 Crores in previous F.Y. having registered place of business in the States of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, the Union territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Lakshadweep, shall furnish return under Form GSTR-3B for the month of August 2020 on or before 1st October 2020.
While, For Taxpayers having turnover up to Rs.5 Crores in previous F.Y. having registered place of business in the States of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand or Odisha, the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Chandigarh or Delhi shall furnish return under Form GSTR-3B for the month of August 2020 on or before 3rd October 2020.
This Notification has been issued to amend the Notification no.29/2020-Central Tax dated 23rd March 2020 which prescribed the due date for the category taxpayers mentioned above for period April 2020 to September 2020 as 22nd and 24th of the next month respectively. Thus, This means that No Late fees, as well as no interest, shall be charged from these taxpayers if they file their returns under Form GSTR-3B on or before 1st and 3rd October 2020 respectively.
